Referrals
Your doctor (either GP or specialist) will forward a referral to the Sleep Disorders Centre at St Vincent’s who will then contact you by phone or letter to arrange a convenient time for you to have an overnight sleep study or other specified test.
If you are being referred by your GP, an appointment will be made for you to have a consultation with a senior specialist sleep physician prior to a sleep study being performed. Further appointments will be made with the specialist physician for review of the sleep study results and subsequent treatment if necessary.

Waiting List
The waiting list for overnight sleep studies at the Centre is generally 4 to 6 weeks. As the service operates as a public facility, there are significant demands on the service. The centre does operate a cancellation list and earlier appointments are often available if you opt to be included on this list when making your appointment.
Urgent appointments are available when indicated by the referring physician.

Notification of Appointment
Once you have been contacted a date will be arranged for your sleep study that suits you. Appointments are rarely altered by the Centre.
One week prior to your appointment you will be sent a letter confirming your appointment and also an information page outlining the details such as location arrival time etc. The letter is sent at this time to ensure your details are to hand at the time of your appointment.

Confirmation or Cancellation of Appointments
Confirmation of your attendance is requested 48 hours prior to your appointment by phoning (03) 9288 3320. For patient attending the centre on a Monday night, confirmation is requested on the Friday prior.
Cancellation of appointments is requested as soon as you know that your will be unable to attend your appointment. Ideally at least three days notice is necessary with short notice cancellations being subject to a cancellation fee of $100.
We ask that cancellations be made early to allow the appointment to by accessed by other patients on the waiting list.
